Brian A.

I have had chiropractic work done in the past and have never had relief. The newer techniques learned and perfected by Dr. Armstrong have finally provided me with the relief chiropractors have always told me was possible. Her bedside manner is friendly yet professional creating a very comfortable atmosphere. If you're living in pain, thinking that nothing is able to help, Dr. Armstrong is my recommendation for giving you the relief you need.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrom?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occurs when the median nerve becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist.  The Carpal Tunnel is a narrow, rigid passageway of ligament and bones at the base of the hand which houses the median nerve and tendons. On occasion, thickening from irritated tendons or other swelling narrows the tunnel causing the median nerve to be compressed. This results in pain, weakness, or numbness in the hand and wrist, with radiation up the arm. Although painful sensations can indicate other conditions, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the most widely known of the entrapment neuropathies where the body's peripheral nerves are compressed or traumatized.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Symptoms usually begins gradually, with frequent burning, tingling, or itching numbness in the palm of the hand and the fingers. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome symptoms quite often first become apparent in one or both hands during the night, since many people sleep with their wrists flexed. Individuals with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome may wake up feeling the need to shake their hands rapidly or "shake out" their hand or wrist in order to stop the tingling. As Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Symptoms worsen, people can feel tingling during the day.

At our clinics in Appleton, and Menomonee Falls we believe carpal tunnel syndrome treatments should be as conservative and as noninvasive as possible.  For many people suffering from carpal tunnel, pain relief has been achieved without the use of drugs or surgery.  Surgery has mixed outcomes and should be viewed only as a last resort after all conservative methods have failed.  If you are contemplating carpal tunnel surgery please call us and get a second opinion.
