Whiplash
Two million Americans get whiplash annually. The injury is usually caused from a car accident, playing sports, falling or being struck or punched. Although whiplash is not a medical term, it is a term used to describe severe pain. No matter the cause, it is critical that you receive a thorough chiropractic exam. Early detection and treatment is critical. If you take your health seriously, please understand that whiplash injuries and symptoms can take years to develop. All too often people do not seek treatment until more serious complications develop. In many cases, after whiplash victims settle their insurance claims, some 45% report they still suffer with symptoms 2 years later.
Historically old technology, x-rays, did not show soft tissue damage, which caused many insurance companies not to cover damage related to whiplash. Not only was the patient considered a fraud, or hypochondriac, they had to pay for their own medical bills. Today modern technology gives us a better view of the soft tissue damage. CAT Scans, Magnetic Imaging (MRI), and Ultra Sound can give us exceptional photographs of soft tissue damage. Chiropractors are trained to read these photographs and create a program to get you better!
Nearly 70% of those suffering from whiplash also complain of headaches. The pain may be on again and off again or constant, on one side or both. These tension headaches are caused by muscles tensing up while attempting to keep the head stable. Another problem caused by tense muscles is shoulder pain mostly described as pain radiating down the back of the neck into the shoulder blade area.
Muscle tears can present as burning pain, prickling or tingling. More severe disc damage may cause sharp pain with certain movements, with or without radiation into the arms, hand and fingers, which can be relieved by holding your hand over your head.
Below is a list of the most common whiplash complaints. If you experience any of these problems from a recent accident or from a trauma or accident from years ago please seek chiropractic help and relieve your pain. Armstrong Chiropractic is currently taking new patients so please call for an appointment.

Regardless of how whiplash happens, it must be treated. Taking either over the counter medications or prescription medications will help you block your pain and may give you some temporary relief, but will not take care of the actual problem. Chiropractic treatment can help by healing the pain without the effects of drugs. For more information on whiplash please consult Armstrong Chiropractic.
