Sciatica is typically low back pain in combination with a pain through the buttock and down one leg. The leg pain typically goes past the knee and can go farther down to the foot. In many cases weakness in the leg muscles occurs with sciatica.

  • It is important to note the sciatic nerves are the largest nerves in the body and are about the size of your pinky finger. They come out of the spinal column low in the back and then go behind the hip joint, down the buttock, and finally down the back of the leg to the foot.

  • Sciatica is very different from other forms of low back pain because the pain usually begins in the back but then travels down one lower extremity.

  • The pain is usually a shooting pain, almost like an electric shock. People who suffer with Sciatica also describe a burning, almost like fire or tingle much like the feeling when your leg falls asleep. The pain will range from slightly annoying to totally unbearable. Many people have pain in one part of the leg and numbness in another part of the same leg.

At Armstrong Chiropractic Clinic's, of Appleton and Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin we treat Sciatica. If you or a loved one suffers from sciatic pain, sciatica or low back pain that continues down into your leg please contact Dr. Armstrong for a consultation.
